Guilt-EE's
THE GAME
Guilt-EE’s is a Twine game that explores the hidden realities of factory farming. Disguised as a visit to a campy, farm-themed restaurant, the game invites players to go beyond the simulation and learn the truth. Guided by an activist named Sage, players will experience the factory farm as a piglet and a worker before facing their final decision: will they eat their meal?
THE PROCESS
I created Guilt-EE’s in Twine using the Harlowe story format, along with CSS and JavaScript, and illustrated all the visuals in Procreate. Throughout the semester, I refined the narrative using principles of interactive storytelling, focusing on agency, immersion, and transformation. These ideas helped me design a nonlinear experience where players could shift perspectives, make difficult choices, and reflect on their role in the system. Feedback from usability testing with my professor and peers led to important refinements in character development, style, interactivity, and the emotional impact of my story.
THE CREATOR
I’m studying Emerging Media Design and Development at Ball State. This game is the product of a semester-long project, where I explored an issue I care deeply about through interactive storytelling. I also stepped into the challenging and important space of designing games for behavioral change.
Guilt-EE’s challenges players to think critically about consumption, complicity, and what it means to live ethically in a system built on suffering. This experience brings attention to the hidden realities of factory farming and offers players space to learn, reflect, and feel.
